Explore Chicago

Most Chicago hotels put you within walking distance of the lakefront, the Riverwalk, and the CTA. Whether you're downtown in the Loop for a Broadway run at the Nederlander, in River North for the gallery district and steakhouses, or up in Wrigleyville for a Cubs game, you'll find world-class museums and easy access to O'Hare (ORD) and Midway (MDW).

Chicago is a walking and transit city first. The Riverwalk connects the Loop to the lake, and the elevated 'L' puts every neighborhood within a single transfer. Architecture defines the skyline, and a river cruise past the Wrigley Building, Marina City, and the Willis Tower is the city's signature first-day outing.

The food runs deep beyond deep-dish. Neighborhood taquerias in Pilsen, the West Loop's Restaurant Row on Randolph Street, and classic Italian beef stands all sit a short ride apart. In summer, the free concerts at Millennium Park's Pritzker Pavilion turn downtown into an open-air living room.

Neighborhoods in Chicago

The Loop
Downtown theaters, Millennium Park, and Michigan Avenue at your doorstep. Best for first visits and convention travelers.
River North
Galleries, steakhouses, and nightlife just north of the river. Central, walkable, and packed with dining.
Magnificent Mile
Flagship shopping and lake-adjacent hotels along North Michigan Avenue. Polished and easy to navigate.
Wrigleyville & Lakeview
Ballpark energy, patios, and a residential feel a short Red Line ride from downtown.

Climate & when to visit

Summer (Jun–Aug)
75–85°F. Festival season, rooftop bars, and lakefront beaches make these the city's peak months.
Fall (Sep–Nov)
50–70°F. Crisp weather, fewer crowds, and the best rates outside major conventions.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
20–35°F. Cold and often snowy. Pack layers, but expect the lowest hotel rates of the year.
Spring (Mar–May)
45–65°F. Variable weather warming into patio season, with strong midweek value.

Getting around

  • O'Hare (ORD) connects to downtown on the CTA Blue Line in about 45 minutes; Midway (MDW) uses the Orange Line.
  • The 'L' and bus network cover every visitor neighborhood, and a Ventra day pass is usually the best value.
  • Downtown, the Riverwalk and Loop are best explored on foot; most attractions sit within a mile.
  • For the suburbs, museums campus, or a Cubs game farther out, rideshare and Metra fill the gaps.
